Supplying the flood for the film "Noahs Ark"

Australian is one of the few places in
the world which has a film studio with a horizon tank. By filming a tank
which is close by the sea any vessel in the tank looks as if it is
surrounded by water. The film "Naohs Ark" was filmed in this tank at
Laverton.

 |
| Water was pumped into 2 40 foot shipping
containers and released down spillways to simulate the surge of
flood waters. We had to pump the tank empty and then fill it
again in as little time as possible for scene changes. |

The ark itself was made from timber above the waterline,
and shipping containers below the waterline. Scaffolds were erected
around the hull from which to film so that the background would be the bay.

Large waves were simulated by filling rotating tanks at
the top of a chute. The tanks were filled with water, and then fully rotated to release the entire contents of the tank down the shute,
creating a small tidal wave. |
