Sewer bypass at Travancore Park, Victoria
|
 |
A major sewer running under the Commonwealth Games
site needed relining. The sewer was bypassed in Travancore Park. We used
2 submersible pumps and 2 self priming pumps as back up. The submersible
pumps were controlled automatically via level sensing electronics, and
all powered by silenced generators. Our brief was for maximum reliability,
no spillage, and
no down time. |
|
The setup was to be manned 24 hours a day for 2 months so it was
necessary to have a site office and all staff amenities. We mounted
switchboards and control instrumentation in the site office. Electronic
level detection and closed circuit TV was used to monitor suction and
discharge manholes.

A riser cover was fabricated to accommodate a lifting
frame and access for the various pipes going into and out of the sewer
riser. The riser cover cover was sealed to the ground to
prevent any escape of unpleasant odours. |
